"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." -- Mark Twain

Introduction

A picture of me.Hi! My name is Laurie Dickmeyer, and I am a Senior German and geography major at Valparaiso University in northwest Indiana. I am originally from Fort Wayne, Indiana, but recently spent the last year school year (2005-2006) in Tübingen, Germany. This is my first webpage, and I was surprised to learn how easy it was to make one just using basic HTML, so if you do not know how to, check out the link for GEO 280X below and visit Webmonkey's Tutorial.

My Stay in Europe

While I was in Europe, I did a fair amount of traveling during a two month break between the winter and summer semesters and was able to visit Denmark, Italy, France, Austria (by accident), Switzerland, as well as a lot of Germany. I learned to appreciate and use public transportation (buses, trains), communicate in languages that were neither English nor German (not something I would care to do again by myself), and meet new people from areas of the world and in situations I had never experienced before. Plans were also made to hike along the Westweg, a hiking trail in the Black Forest in southwest Germany. This trip, if hiked in the suggested increments, lasts eleven days. Unfortunately, I became sick during this time and was unable to go, but it is a dream of mine to go back some early summer and complete it.
