olling
into the 1980's, films continued to ride on the momentum from the
previous decade. This era produced many of the infamous teen classics,
such as Flashdance and Back to the Future. Although
many films of this decade lacked originality, many utilized newfound
technology. George Lucas and Steven Spielberg made themselves household
names with their use of digital special effects and the newly introduced
Dolby stereo sound in the films E.T. and The Return of
the Jedi (Karney 694).
This technology caused budgets to increase tremendously. Movies
were only produced if success at the box office was assured. This
stipulation began the trend of stars demanding outrageously high
salaries for their performances (Dirks). |
