~~~Overview and Purpose~~~ This WebQuest will allow fourth grade students to explore various major cities, rivers, and other landforms in Indiana. With the completion of this activity, students should be able to accurately locate these various areas of interest on a map and be able to recall important facts about the areas. This WebQuest meets the following Indiana State Standard for Social Studies: 4.3.4 (Locate Indiana on a map of the United States; indicate the state capital, major cities, and rivers in Indiana; and be able to place these on a blank map of the state.) |

ALERT! ALERT! Carlito Has Escaped!
The extremely dangerous and unkempt Captain Carlito has escaped from his cell at the Indiana State Prison. Just this morning he used a self-carved soap gun, ala Hoosier outlaw John Dillinger, to force his way out of the prison. Report has it, that he immediately caught a flight to Texas and kidnapped Hoosier basketball icon and noted hothead Bobby Knight. It is believed that Captain Carlito has returned to Indiana with Mr. Knight to carry out murderous revenge. "Rookies, it is your job to determine Carlito's motive for murder and locate him before Mr. Knight says good night for the last time. Work with your partner to track down this lunatic before it's too late. Follow the trail of clues, which will lead you to various cities and landforms in Indiana. If you do not know where to travel to next, consult the detective guide book. Search quickly and diligently, because if you flub up and travel to the wrong city or landmark, you will loose Carlito. I urge you not to turn this into a guessing game, use the guide book as a tool, because Mr. Knight's life is in your hands. Record the cities you travel to on your Indiana Map and record all the clues you discover along the way. It is crucial that we have evidence and a motive to convict Carlito, so you will need to make sure your record all information. Detectives, travel to the city where the Indiana State Prison is located and search Carlito's cell for clues.
